Therapeutic riding is an area of non-therapy services focusing on various areas of activities including horsemanship, groundwork, and different riding styles. Mounted and unmounted activities with horses are used to create a fun, invigorating and memorable experience.
Equines for Fosters works with McCord Training to provide a safe and enjoyable environment where participants have the opportunity to experience the benefits of being around the horses. These include horseback riding skills, horsemanship skills, physical, cognitive, mental, and emotional challenges.
Participants have the opportunity to engage in physical athletic activities, which can help with balance, muscle strength and coordination. Being around horses helps encourage participants to understand the limits of their abilities and to make good choices. All sessions are given under the guidance of qualified instructors.
The benefits of therapeutic riding are immense. They include a variety of physical, social, and emotional benefits. Riding horses can help improve fitness, balance, coordination and posture. It can also be relaxing (calming) or invigorating, depending on the environment, session, activities, and the horse being ridden. Some of the emotional benefits of riding become apparent though increases in self-confidence, interpersonal connections with the horses and instructors, as an ability to more openly asses situations and the individuals abilities or limitations when approaching them.
